Welcome to the homepage of the International Conference on Methods and Applications of Radioanalytical Chemistry (MARC). The MARC conference series' most recent conference was MARC XII held in 2022 in Kailua-Kona. Previous conferences were held in 1987, 1991, 1994, 1997, 2000, 2003, 2006, 2009, 2012, 2015, 2018 and 2022 respectively. The original idea and concept for these conferences was the result of a technical group meeting in the "Cable Car Bar" during the 1975 American Nuclear Society's Fall Meeting held in San Francisco, California. The MARC conferences grew out of the series of conferences held previously at the University of Missouri and later in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico from 1969 to 1984 which focused primarily on activation analysis and its application to environmental and biological sciences. Since the field of activation analysis and its applications are comprehensively reviewed every four years or so in the Modern Trends in Activation Analysis (MTAA) conferences, the organizers of the MARC conferences decided that the broader scope of radioanalytical chemistry and its applications should be covered.

Since MARC I in 1987, this series of conferences has become the major international forum for discussion of advances in radioanalytical chemistry and its applications, despite the somewhat remote location for many participants. A wide variety of topics are covered in the scientific program including environmental radioactivity measurements, activation analysis, biology and medical applications, radiation detectors and instrumentation, nuclear proliferation prevention and safeguards, education, and mass spectrometry methods for detecting radioactive materials.

The conference will continue the tradition set by the previous MARC conferences by focusing on emerging developments in radioanalytical chemistry and radiochemistry, with particular emphasis on new applications. The objective of the MARC conferences is to promote a broad interchange of information on radioanalytical chemistry among scientists from participating countries. Participants from more than 35 countries are expected to attend MARC XII and give papers. The central geographic location of Hawaii encourages participation and attendance of scientists from Pacific Rim countries as well as providing European scientists with easy accessibility from major US airports. The isolated nature of Kailua-Kona on the Island of Hawaii provides an excellent atmosphere for informal discussions and working groups among the anticipated 300-350 attending scientists and also provides excellent recreational facilities for participants and guests.

The conference includes both oral and poster sessions grouped around specific topics. Poster sessions are organized around specific themes, similar to complement the oral sessions. Poster presentations on these topics will be grouped together which will permit informal group discussions on specific topics. Continuing the policy of the previous MARC conferences, presenters in both the oral and poster sessions are encouraged to submit a manuscript for peer-reviewed publication of the conference proceedings as part of the serial volumes of the Journal of Radioanalytical and Nuclear Chemistry (JRNC). Further information is available on the website or by contacting the Program Chair, Sam Glover.
