25th Symposium on Boundary Layers and Turbulence 6/17/2025 - 6/20/2025 Venue: Centro Congressi Lingotto, Turin, Italy | ||

The 25th Symposium on Boundary Layers and Turbulence is organized by the AMS Boundary Layers and Turbulence and hosted by the American Meteorological Society.
The Symposium on Boundary Layers and Turbulence is the premiere international meeting of scientists focusing on the dynamics of the atmospheric boundary layer that spans the first 200 to 2000 m above the Earth surface. Almost all humans and human activities are concentrated in that layer, and its meteorology is thus critical for a myriad of applications that span sustainability, resilience, and health. This is the silver jubilee of our symposium: it is the 25th meeting that we convene to exchange the latest research and findings on the theory and applications of boundary-layer meteorology. Over the past 50+ years of meetings, theoretical advances have been amplified by novel numerical and observational tools, and applications have expanded to touch almost all grand challenges facing humanity. In this symposium, we will thus take stock of where the field stands today and where it is heading. The symposium will be organized along five overarching themes: boundary layers and turbulence theory, boundary layers over complex terrain, interactions with larger scales and other processes, applications for critical and emerging challenges, and innovations in research methods. Sessions will cover classic topics, as well as the expanding range of applications that build on boundary-layers and turbulence research including wind and solar energy and fire meteorology. Innovations in the numerical simulations and observational methods, as well as the emerging use of artificial intelligence, will be featured. We thus solicit abstracts that span the full theory-to-application spectrum, and that examine boundary layers and turbulence over the large range of land cover and land use that our planet features. Join us in Italy for this pivotal and international Symposium on Boundary Layers and Turbulence and contribute to shaping the future of our field.
