| The European Solid-State Device Research Conference (ESSDERC) began in 1971 in Munich, Germany, to showcase advances in device physics and technology. Its sister event, the European Solid-State Circuits Conference (ESSCIRC) started in 1975, focusing on circuit design and simulation.
As electronic systems grew more complex, closer collaboration between device and circuit designers became essential. To meet this need, the ESSDERC/ESSCIRC Steering Committee merged the two conference. The final joint ESSDERC/ESSCIRC took place in Lisbon in 2023, and the first unified European Solid-State Electronics Research Conference (ESSERC) was held in Bruges in 2024, marking the 50th edition. ESSERC 2027 in Helsinki will be the 53rd edition, continuing its unified structure with dedicated tracks for circuits, technologies, and joint topics, serving as Europe's premier forum for cross-disciplinary innovation in solid-state electronics.
